PUWMA ASV Updates

Some fine Weather at the end of October allowed for some much anticipated testing of the PUWMA ASV (Autonomous Surface Vessel) which has been in the hands of researchers belonging to ‘The Halpin Centre for Research and Innovation’ who were working with Mariteq Solutions under an Innovation voucher funded by Enterprise Ireland for the past few months.

The tests were to confirm that upon loss of WiFi, the system automatically switched to the LTE/GSM network allowing for seamless communications sharing both Live Sonar and Situational awareness data thanks to both AIS and CCTV systems. Confirmation of these successes allow for future upgrades to starlink systems giving

Final testing will take place in November with the project coming to a close. The last hurdle to climb is the collision avoidance system which performed well yesterday in lab tests utilising Lidar systems.

The system will be available to see at the NMCI open day on Thursday 06th of November 25.
